Fire & Smoke Damage Claims in Texas
The fire is out. Your claim is just getting started.
Kenro Enterprises represents Texas homeowners, business owners and ranch owners on fire and smoke damage claims. We work for you, not the insurance company. Our job is to find and document the full extent of the damage, including the damage you can't see, and pursue a fair settlement under your policy.
What You Can't See Can Cost You
The burned areas are only part of a fire loss. Smoke works its way into walls, attics, air ducts and the HVAC system, and soot settles in rooms far from the flames. This hidden damage is easy to miss in a quick inspection, and it's often left out of the insurance company's estimate.
Smoke residue isn't just dirt, either. It can carry chemicals from whatever burned, such as plastics, insulation and furniture. Surfaces that look clean may still need to be tested and properly cleaned, or replaced. If the repair plan only covers what you can see, the problems can come back later.
How We Handle Your Fire Claim
- Review. We go through your policy, your claim and everything the insurance company has sent you.
- Inspect. We walk the property in person, looking for the visible damage and the hidden smoke and soot damage that's often missed.
- Estimate. We build a detailed comparative estimate, set side by side with the insurance company's, so you can see exactly what was left out.
- Negotiate. We handle the back-and-forth with your insurance company and back up every item with documentation.
- Bring in experts. When the claim needs them, we bring in the right experts, and we work with your own contractor if you have one.
- Settle. We work toward a fair settlement based on your documented damage and your policy.

Right After a Fire: Do This, Not That
Do:
- Document everything. Take photos and videos of every room before anything is cleaned or removed.
- Notify your insurance company promptly.
- Keep a record of every conversation with your insurance company: dates, names and what was said.
- Ask questions. If something is unclear, ask the insurance adjuster.
- Protect the property, with proof. If something must be done right away, like boarding up a window or tarping the roof, take photos first and keep the receipts.
- Start looking for a qualified, licensed contractor.
Don't:
- Ignore the adjuster. Answer the insurance adjuster's questions and requests for information.
- Start tearing things out before the damage has been fully documented.
- Hire a contractor who can't show their credentials.
- Sign off on a repair plan before you understand what it covers, including how the smoke residue will be dealt with.
No Flames in Your Home? You May Still Have a Smoke Claim.
Smoke from a fire in another room, a neighboring property or a wildfire can get into your walls, ceilings, ducts and belongings, even if the flames never reached you.
- Document it first: smells, staining, soot and discoloration.
- Don't rush to clean. Some smoke damage is hidden, and cleaning too soon can make it harder to document.
- Notify your insurance company within a reasonable time.
Before You Accept a Repair Plan, Read This
The most common mistake we see: property owners accept the insurance company's plan for rebuilding their home without knowing whether it fully deals with the smoke damage. A plan that covers only the visible damage can leave problems behind that affect your home, and possibly your health, down the road.
Before you agree to anything, make sure you understand what the plan covers and what it leaves out. If you're not sure, that's exactly what a free claim review is for.
